The Hellenic Olympic Committee, the International Olympic Academy, the Olympic Museum, the Municipality of Thessaloniki, the Municipality of Kalamaria, the Hellenic Olympians Association, the Hellenic Athletics Association of Thessaloniki and the I.C.O OLYMPiA announce the organization of Marathon, Half Marathon, 10.000m, 5.000m & 1.500m running races, under the following conditions:

2.1 MARATHON RACE

Start & Finish point: On Alexander the Great Avenue at the height of the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture.

Starting Time: 7:45 a.m.

Route Description:

Starting point over M. Alexandrou Avenue heading South, entering on Maria Kallas street, right on Themistokli Sophouli street, Nik. Plastira (Kalamaria), making a U-turn at the height of Miaouli Street and return in the opposite direction, Kerasuntos street, left on Takis Oikonomidis Street, left on Kath. Rossidou street, continuing on Marias Kallas street and then on M. Alexandrou Avenue heading towards the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture, right on 3rd Septemvriou street, then on M. Andronikou, Tsimiski, Polytechniou streets, left on 26th Octovriou Street, making a U-turn at the height of Georgiou Andreou Street, continue on Karatasou street, N. Kountouriotou street and Nikis Avenue heading towards White Tower, continuing on 30th Octovriou street, continuing over M. Alexandrou Avenue heading South, entering on Maria Kallas Street, right on Themistokli Sophouli street, Nik. Plastira (Kalamaria), making a U-turn at the height of Miaouli Street and return in the opposite direction, Kerasuntos street, left on Takis Oikonomidis Street, left on Kath. Route Description:

Starting point over M. Alexandrou Avenue heading South, entering on Maria Kallas Street, right on Themistokli Sophouli street, Nik. Starting time: 9:45 a.m. 

Route Description:

Starting point on M. Alexandrou Avenue heading South, making a U-turn on And. Papandreou at the height of the intersection with Maria Kallas street, continuing in the opposite direction on M. Alexandrou Avenue heading towards the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture, right at 3rd Septemvriou street, M. Andronikou street, Tsimiski, Polytechniou, left (U-turn) at Karatasou street, N. Kountouriotou street, Nikis Avenue heading towards White Tower, 30th Octovriou street, to finish at the height of the “UMBRELLES” sculpture.

2.4. 5.000 m RACE

Start point: 

On Alexander the Great Avenue at the height of the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture.

Finish point: 

On Alexander the Great Avenue at the height of the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture.

Starting time: 12:30 p.m.

Route Description:

Starting point on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue heading South, making a U-turn on Megalou Alexandrou Street, 50 m before Kallidopoulou Street, continuing in the opposite direction on Megalou Alexandrou Avenue towards the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture, right turn onto 3rd Septemvriou Street, Mikras Andronikou Street, Tsimiski Street, left onto Agias Sofias Street, left onto Nikis Avenue towards the White Tower, continuing on 30th Octovriou Street, finishing at the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture.

2.5. Social Impact Race-Walking: 1.500 m

Start point:

On Nikis Avenue at the level of Aristotelous Square

Finish point: 

On Alexander the Great Avenue at the height of the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture 

Starting time: 11:30 a.m. 

Route Description:

Starting point on Nikis Avenue at the height of Aristotelous Square heading towards White Tower, 30th Octovriou street, to finish at the height of the “UMBRELLAS” sculpture.

3. PARTICIPATION

To take part in the 8th Olympic Day Run and the 1st Thessaloniki City Marathon, and specifically in the:

Marathon, runner must be at least 18 years old  

Half Marathon, runner must be at least 18 years old 

10 Km Race, runner must be at least 15 years old  

5 Km Race, runner must be at least 12 years old 

In the 1.5 Km Social Impact Race-walking (Schools, Family Run & She Run), runners of all ages can participate.

For the participation of underage runners, registering individually, it is mandatory to submit a formal Declaration of Consent, signed by either the parent or legal guardian, consenting to participate the underage runner in the race, according to the signed form.  The person registered as “Participation Responsible” has the parental responsibility of minors.

In case of group participation regarding schools, associations, sport clubs etc. the person registered as “Group Responsible” is having full responsibility of the minors on all issues including their safety. For the delivery of the race equipment, the registered “Group Responsible” must deliver for all minors the formal Declarations of Consent completed by their parents or legal guardians, as well as his/her authorization to act as “Group Responsible”. An official list must be submitted, too, naming all underage runners representing an institution (school, sport-club etc.).

5.REGISTRATION

5.1 REGISTRATION TYPE

A.INDIVIDUAL ADULT B.INDIVIDUAL UNDERAGE

In the case of underage runners, the registered “Participation Responsible” has the parental responsibility of the minor/s. By giving his/her consent, the “Participation Responsible” agrees with the minors’ participation in the race and declares his/her parental responsibility in the consent document.

C.STUDENT/MILITARY – REDUCED

For students and individuals doing their military service, it is mandatory to show their student or military identification cards, which ones must be in force on the date of the event.  The identification card is required for the delivery of the race equipment.

D.GROUP

Available for a group of 10 and over wishing to participate in the same race.  The group-type registration refers to sport clubs, runners’ clubs, gyms, companies, private and public organizations, as well as to individuals wishing to participate as a group. The group may consist of either adult or underage runners, or be a mixed one. The age-limit of the runners is defined by the rules applying for each race. The person registered as “Group Responsible” represents the group in all communication with the organizers and receives the groups’ race equipment by displaying his/her identification card.

The person registered as “Group Responsible” must submit: 

1) the declarations of consent signed by the parents or legal guardians of the underage runners (one form for each underage runner)

2) his/her authorization to act as “Group Responsible, as well as,

3) an official participants’ list issued by the participant institution (association, club, etc.)

at the secretariat of the Registration Center during the delivery of the race equipment. The person registered as “Group Responsible” is the one having full responsibility of the minors on all issues, including their safety.

E. SCHOOL PARTICIPATION 1.5Km RACE

Students of primary schools and high-schools participate free-of-charge in the 1.5Km Race under the condition that they are registered as a group by their school via email and be approved by the organizer. The School Group race-package consists of the race medal, the International Olympic Day Certificate, which is issued by the Hellenic and International Olympic Committees, water, juice and medical services. Registration is required even in the case of schools wherein participation is free-of-charge. 

The person registered as “Group Responsible” is designated as the group’s representative for matters of communication with the organizers and is responsible for receiving the equipment by showing his Identity Card.

The person registered as “Group Responsible” must submit:

1) the declarations of consent signed by the parents or legal guardians of the underage runners (one form for each underage runner)

2) his/her authorization to act as “Group Responsible, as well as,

3) an official participants’ list issued by the school

at the secretariat of the Registration Center during the delivery of the race equipment. The person registered as “Group Responsible” is the one having full responsibility of the minors on all issues, including their safety.

F. REGISTRATION OF TEAMS IN SOCIAL SENSITIZATION RACES of Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K, 5K & 1.5K

The runners offer with their registration the amount of €4, which will be allocated by the Organizing Committee to Social Responsibility Organizations for sensitive groups, which will be announced on the website www.olympicdayrun.gr. 

The groups that will participate in the Social Sensitization Running Race may be mixed (minors and adults). The person registered as “Group Responsible” is also designated as the group’s representative for communication with the organizers and is responsible for receiving the equipment by showing his Identity Card. When receiving the equipment, he must present to the secretariat of the Registration Center, the declarations of consent signed by the parents/guardians of all minor runners with their consent regarding the children’s participation in the race, as well as an official participants’ list by the organization. The person registered as “Group Responsible” is the one having full responsibility of the minors on all issues, including their safety.

The participation of primary, secondary and high schools – exclusively in the 1.5 km race, is FREE, provided that the registration is done as a group through the school unit and after direct contact with the organizer at olympicdaygr@gmail.com. Participation includes a commemorative medal, a printed certificate of participation in the Global Celebration of the International Olympic Day by the Greek and International Olympic Committees, water, juice and medical services.

ATTENTION 

Refunds – Cancellation Policy: Cancellation is possible for registrations done up until Sunday November 2nd, 2025, with a cancellation fee of 3.5 euro incurring. For registration taking place from Monday November 3rd, 2025, and onwards, there will not be refunds. Service invoices are issued only upon timely request and require payment of VAT according to the Greek law.

7. DISTINCTIONS – AWARDS 

7.1 Distinctions – Awards

All runners finishing the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 Km, 5 Km & 1.5 Km Races, will receive a commemorative medal, a certificate of participation in the Global Celebration of the International Olympic Day by the International Olympic Committee, as well as, rewards for the winners. Winners are considered the first three (3) registered runners, women and men respectively, to finish in the Marathon, Half Marathon, 10 Km, 5 Km & 1.5 Km Races, the first three (3) registered girls and boys between the age of 12 to 18, to finish in the 5 Km & 1.5 Km Races and the distinguished runners in Men’s and Women’s categories of the following age groups: 36-50 years, 51-65 years & 66 years and over.

Race E-Certificate of Participation 

Runners who finish the race of their choice, will be able to print their race’s
E-Certificate of Participation through the organization’s official website www.olympicdayrun.gr. 

7.2 Special Awards

Upon decision of the Organizing Committee, special awards will be granted to the following categories: 

Mass Participation (most populous group participation)

Mass Participation (sports and cultural associations)

Mass Participation (primary schools–high schools) 

The Oldest runner

8. MEDICAL SERVICES 

All runners participate at their own risk. Race organizers are not to be held responsible for any medical condition, which may occur during the course or after the race. It is recommended that runners do medical screening tests prior to the race. Adult runners participate on their own sole initiative and responsibility, while underage runners on their parent’s or legal guardian’s responsibility and formal consent, having done all the necessary medical screenings and cardiac controls. For the race, all safety and public health measures for the protection of public-health, as set by the National Public Health Organization and other health authorities, will be taken.  Detailed information will be given to all registered participants regarding every aspect of the event, its regulations and the procedures to be followed in accordance to the health protocols of the NPHO, in power at the time of the event. During the course of the event, medical and First Aid personnel will be located at the starting and finishing lines of the races, as well as in other selected spots of the race-route to deal with any medical emergency.

ELECTRONIC TIME CONTROL

A race timing company oversees the 8th Olympic Day Run Greece and the 1st Thessaloniki City Marathon’s results. All runners are expected to wear the bib number and running chip delivered to them at Registration Desk. Electronic control carpets and time-check will be placed at the start, finish and other points of the race courses. Runners without an electronic chip will not be ranked.
